Admissions FAQs

Age of Admission: A child entering school must be in compliance with the age requirements of the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago regarding age of admission.

Pre-School: Students entering three-year old pre-school must be three on or before September 1st. Students entering four-year old pre-school must be four years of age on or before September 1st.

Kindergarten: Students entering kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1st.

First Grade: Students entering grade one must be six years of age on or before September 1st.

  • All children must be up to date on their immunizations.
  • All children must be toilet trained.

How does Saint Damian rank academically?

Saint Damian School has twice been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Our students rank in the top 10 percent of the nation in mathematics and reading scores. Our Terra Nova Test results are listed in a separate link under admissions.

How is religious education incorporated into the curriculum?

The program of religious instruction include daily prayer, daily religion classes, a weekly liturgy, classroom prayer services, observances of special feasts, opportunities for Reconciliation during Advent and Lent, and preparation for the Sacraments.

When is registration?

Applications are generally accepted during the annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week in late January or early February. Open Registration is continual, please call the office at (708) 687-4230.

What is the average class size?

There are two rooms of each grade, with generally 23 to 30 students in each class.

What is the tuition?

A tuition sheet is included in the information packet, and a tuition/fees list is under a separate tab under Admissions. Tuition is paid in ten installments throughout the school year. The cost of tuition is scaled for families with multiple students. Tuition is paid through FACTS Management Tuition.

Is there a preschool?

Both three-year-old and four-year-old preschool are available. Three and Four-year-olds have a choice of three days, four days or five days of your choice – either full or half day.

Is there a choice of half-day or full-day kindergarten?

Full day Kindergarten is offered. There is a maximum class size in Kindergarten of 30 students.

Is there after-school care?

Yes, Saint Damian offers an affordable Extended Day Care program that includes time for quiet play, outdoor play if weather permits, a snack, and time to start on homework. The hours are from 6:30am to 8:00am and from 3:15pm until 6:15pm.

What technology is available to students?

The school has a state-of-the-art computer lab and computers in each classroom. All rooms are wireless internet accessible.  Each classroom has a MIMIO Connect with a projector.

Does Saint Damian offer support services for students with special needs?

A Special Education Coordinator works with parents, teachers and students who are in need of support services. A School Counselor and a full-time Registered Nurse are also on site.

What athletic programs are offered?

The Saint Damian Athletic Association offers basketball and volleyball programs for boys and girls. There is also a co-ed golf team for junior high students.  Students also enjoy the intramural sports program, which includes floor hockey, flag football, soccer and wiffleball.

Is bus service available?

Bus transportation is provided by School District 142 for eligible students.
